Critical Thinking (Unit 7)

In today’s lesson, we are going to talk about the advantages and disadvantages of different sports.

In groups discuss the following questions. Remember to take notes as you discuss

  1. What makes someone a good competitor?
  2. What makes someone a good referee?
  3. Do you think the best prize in a competition is always money?
  4. Is it important for children to do activities where they can win or lose? If so why? If not why not?
  5. What other types of competitions do we have in life?

Now that you have discussed the above questions share your ideas with the rest of the class.

Urban Golf 

Look at the statements in Exercise 2 pages 271 listening and speaking which are advantages and which are disadvantages

Now that you have differentiated between the disadvantages and advantages complete exercise 3 pages 271 listening and speaking by adding all the advantages of urban golf on the rake diagram.

What are the disadvantages of playing urban golf add your ideas to the rake diagram in exercise 4 page 272? 

Advantages  and Disadvantages of other weird sports: 

Look at the four different sports mentioned in listening two, Choose one of the sports and think about the advantages and disadvantages of doing this sport. Brainstorm your ideas and write in the Padlet link below:

Now that you have got some advantages for the sport complete the rake diagram on exercise 5 pg 273. Remember you will need to the information  in the diagram for tomorrow’s class

 

 

Comparing Graphs

In today’s lesson we will analyze two different graphs utilizing the vocabulary and grammatical concepts that we have covered during our previous lesson.

Look at the graphs below what kind of information do they show

 

Look at the graph above and in a notebook answer the following questions

  1. Which the month with the highest temperature?
  2. Which is the month with the lowest temperature?
  3. Which is the month with the most rain
  4. Which is the month with the least rain?
  5. Is there anything else in the graph that is interesting?

Critical thinking Questions 

In pairs look at the graphs again discuss the following questions and share your ideas with the class

  1. What extreme weather do you think this place might have?
  2. What problems might this cause for the people who live there?
