Weather Conditions (Line Graphs)

In today’s lesson we are going to look weather conditions around the world

**Pairwork

Data Collection 

In pairs research data from the list shown below:

  • Average rainfall in the UAE over one year
  • Average rainfall in the UK over one year
  • Average rainfall in New Zealand over one year
  • Average temperatures in the UAE over one year
  • Average temperatures in Germany over one year
  • Average Temperatures in South Africa over one year
  • Average Relative Humidity of the UAE over one year
  • Average Relative Humidity of Malaysia over one year

Graphing the Data 

Once you have collected the data use numbers or google sheets to create a line graph. Make sure that you label the graph properly and that you use the right units for the axis.

Describing your Graph 

Once you have plotted the data in numbers or goole sheets copy the graph and place it into a pages or word document and then write a suitable response. Use the structure below to help you write your essay

Introduction: 

Restate the title of he graph

OverView

Talk about the general shape of the graph. Don’t go into too much detail just talk about the main points. For example the highest and lowest points in the graph

Knowledge 

Use this paragraph to talk about the details that you can see in the graph. Remember you need to mention the main details and that your making a summary of what you can see. At this point you can start mentioning some of the data that you can see

Writing Check List

Use the following check list to review through your work

Does the report have a suitable structure?

  • Does it have an introduction, body and conclusion?
  • Does it include connective words to make the writing cohesive within sentences and paragraphs?

Does the report use suitable grammar and vocabulary?

  • Does it include a variety of sentence structures?
  • Does it include a range of appropriate vocabulary?

Does the report meet the requirements of the task?

  • Does it meet the word limit requirements?
  • Does it describe the whole graph adequately?
  • Does it focus on the important trends presented in the graphic information
