Reading Comprehension 

Using skimming and scanning strategies read the article about Global warming in Southern Asia and respond to the reading comprehension questions.  Writing Task 1: 

Over the past 10 years the UAE has become a major tourism spot. How has this changed the Arabic language in the UAE and the culture?

Once you have barnstormed your ideas use some lined paper and write a suitable response to the writing task. 

Use the check list to ensure that you met all the necessary guidelines

Essay Check List

  • Do you have an introduction
  • Are there three sentences in your introductory paragraph : General statement; your opinion; thesis statement
  • Do you have two body paragraphs
  • Does each body paragraph have a supporting reason and three examples
  • Do you have a conclusion
  • Does your conclusion include a concluding phrase
  • Have you restated your opinion in your conclusion and summarized your reasons
  • Have you used the past tense
  • Have you re-read what you have written to make sure it makes sense
  • Have you used punctuation
  • Do your sentences have full stops and capital letters
  • Are your paragraphs clear

Challenge Writing Task (Task 2) 

Over the past ten years people have begun to travel more and the world seems to be getting smaller and smaller. How has this changed your language and culture and what are some of the causes of this change?
